Call for Abstracts
The biennial academic forum named Conference on Communication, Culture and Media Studies (CCCMS) returns fully as an onsite event this year in the dynamic city of Yogyakarta, in the heart of Java Island, Indonesia on 27th – 29th August 2024. CCCMS invites papers written by any participants from around the globe and coming from various disciplinary backgrounds, focusing their research and professional works in the interrelation between communication, culture and media either within the spectrum of historical contexts or contemporary studies.
“Hybrid” is the main theme of this year’s conference, responding to the very challenges within the frameworks of digital and environmental ecosystem we all face and experience nowadays. This theme deals with both the questions on dichotomy between ‘nature’ and ‘culture’, as Bruno Latour argues, and the notion of ‘cultural hybridity’ in post-colonial societies and the cultural contexts that follow, according to the seminal works by Homi Bhabha. The elaboration of this theme can be varied in terms of empirical cases, sites and sub-field of the studies, perspectives, the types of media forms or communicative and cultural practices, and the social dynamics as the implication of the focus of inquiries.
The Convenor and Abstract Committee of the 7th CCCMS 2024 look forward to welcoming abstracts written in the field of communication and media studies, as well as from any other relevant fields, such as sociology of media/communication, media anthropology, philosophy, science and technology studies (STS), cultural studies, history of communication/media, strategic communications, environmental communication, and so forth.
