WORKSHOP *
Rephotography for Researching Social Issues
When: Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 09:00 – 10:30 WIB (UTC+7)
Where: online via Zoom (for registered conference participants)
What can social science researchers learn from photographic practices? How can social
science researchers employ photography methodologically to critically investigate deeper
layers of social issues?
Drawing insights from the very characters of photography in people’s everyday life
nowadays and departing from such critical questions, this workshop in the 6 th CCCMS 2022
is both conceptual and hands-on. The workshop will explore a particular photographic
approach and practice, namely “rephotography”, to look beyond photographic technical
aspects and seek potential range of thematical possibilities, methodological challenges, and
critical questions.
This approach deals with questions on, for example, social and cultural memory, spatial
formation, locative-based discourse, and historical narrative. Participants from social and
humanities disciplinary backgrounds can get benefit from rephotography to enhance the
visual aspects of their research or projects.
Trainer and Facilitator:
Dr. Zaki Habibi
Lecturer, Universitas Islam Indonesia
Research Affiliate, Lund University, Sweden
*) Online workshop via Zoom, limited for the registered participants of the 6 th CCCMS 2022 only.
